  • Thanks for the feedback, chattiewoman. What I was interested in was the definition of the following:

    Default
    Use Custom Volume

I was using "Use vehicle sound system over Bluetooth" but had problems as stated.  I'll be trying out each setting on my next trip to determine where the issue lies.
  • @amlumsden I forgot to mention: it is a known issue that 2 km (don't know about UK units) before the next manoeuvre, the channel will open always without sound output, whereas at other distances it works normally.
Hence check whether this happens to you too, probably at another distance.
  • That's probably what is happening with the no sound output, chattiewoman.  Thanks for the information.  Still don't know why some of the instructions are not transmitting correctly (connection made, no sound, then part of the instruction).  I'll have to test again.

Would still like to know from tomas or lubos whether we can get tts output for warnings rather than just sound (i.e. "you are 5,10 or whatever miles/kms over the speed limit", "speed camera in n yards/metres", "traffic queue n yards/metres ahead", "Road works n yards/metres ahead" etc)
  • at this moment you cannot get TTS for warnings
  • Tomas, I know this.  What I was asking is if this would be possible in the future as it would be a good feature, given some of your competitors already do this.
  • maybe, but it is not high priority at this moment

  • I notice when travelling that the app doesn't indicate any roadworks etc on the navigation map.  Is this correct and if so, when can we expect full integration of HD Traffic?
  • HD traffic informations shows on my device
    please give example
  • Good Morning,

the newest Update (Beta) doesn't work, after install Navigator stopped,
can I return to an older version?

    Many greetings
    Siggi
  • You did restart your device (map/phone) ?
Try cleaning phone cache (device setup -> device storage -> cache).
Mapfactore Navigator free 3.0.68 is starting and running here on:
     device: SM-T810 9.7''
     OS: Marshmallow (6.0.1)
     Renderer: Mali-T760
     OpenGL ES 3.1

You should provide more info. Just stating: "doesn't work, after install Navigator stopped" is not helping either.
  • I restarted my Smartphone (Galaxy android 6.01), but Navigator doesn't work.
Then I reinstalled Navigatorapp, now Mapfactor works, but now the next
mistake: My Premium-buy is no more available. I should buy once more.
I hope, i can return to the Premium Features, who can help me?
  • Sorry, I have buy the Premium-Features with another Account. I'll try it
    once again. It's already ok!

  • Tomas,  can you explain what I should see when on route regarding HD traffic and roadworks.  On other systems, an icon is shown then the road turns a different colour.  I don't see this on Navigator.  I can't give an example as it occurs when I am driving and the route colour doesn't change nor is there any indication of upcoming roadworks etc..

I think what would be good is a complete explanation on how HD Traffic works and what is shown on the map both from a 2D and 3D perspective as testing something without knowing what to expect is very difficult.
  • MNF 3.0.68
    map United Kingdom 44-201701260
Samsung S5 mini Android 5.1.1 stock rom

Searched for "East Dulwich", tried to display it on the map (standard city center), Navigator crashed twice in a row. Other towns work.
When first searching for another town and then for "East Dulwich" doesn't make MNF crash.
However, having "East Dulwich" as last option, closing MNF and restarting makes that MNF doesn't want to start again. Not at all.

    Clearing the cache doesn't work.
Removing the file "routing_points.xml" cleared history and MNF did start again.

I did sent my logs to MNF.
Please fix: both the map, and the Navigator behavior upon encountering such a point either in the map or in the routing_points.xml

  • I do not have this problem, East Dulwich town centre works fine

  • Thanks for the  roadworks screenshot, Tomas.  I'll double check on my next trip.  I certainly didn't see that on my last.  May I suggest that the navigation map could look a lot more pleasing if the route and traffic overlay was the same width as the road.  It just looks untidy and clunky.  Something that has bothered me for ages but keep forgetting to mention it.

I would also appreciate a changelog for the 3.0.68 build as none issued.  I noticed Jan Gruuthuse quoted 3.0.69.  Not sure if that is a typo as my latest is 3.0.68.

  • Navigator 3.0.68
    Nederland map 44-201701120
And today a > 2 hrs drive. No HD Trafficwhatsoever. After about an hour (in a traffic jam which I could not see), I switched to another nav app with HD Traffic. Immediately it showed me I was in a traffic jam.
So I closed that app and tried to restart Navigator. Navigator didn't want to start at all anymore. I drove on using the other app and on the final parking place I removed again the routing_points.xml and then Navigtor started again. But still no HD Traffic.

Please solve the HD Traffic issue.
And I don't believe anymore in corrupt maps. I think it is a deeper issue in Navigator.
  • Hello from Poland
As a long term user of stable Navigator user, I've joined to beta tests of it due to new functionalities – especialy HD Traffic. Last weekend I've startet to test Navigator during two trips – Brzoskwinia (near Kraków) – Bukowina Tatrzańska (Lesser Poland), Brzoskwinia – Sandomierz and for last two days in Kraków. My observations of possible bugs:
    Navigator 3.0.68
    Android 6.0.1
    LG K10 LTE
HW renderer behaves strangely during navigation with very low speed (in traffic) and after stopping the car (in 3D mode) – map rotates in both directions finally pointing side or backward direction. This problem doesn't exist for SW renderer.
SW renderer refreshes map in 3D mode of navigation to slowly (not more than couple of redraws per second which is clearly visible) causing lag in actual position (maybe this is not a bug but it is caused by not enough powerful hardware) – there is no such problem in HW renderer (all goes smoothly)
There are still problems with downloading HD Traffic informations. Yesterday afternoon, this morning I haven't obtain any informations at all. Accessing HD Traffic data is still unpredictable – sometimes it works immediately, sometimes it lasts “forever”
I don't know if it is a bug or it is the way how it is programmed but I've observed that if HD Traffic information comes after calculation of the route it doesn't cause recalculation of the trip (that I had yesterday morning, when I had stuck in properly showed traffic jam, which was not shown during calculation of the trip). It would be great to have such functionality – especially during longer journeys when traffic situation is changing. Maybe even as an option or at least information about new HD Traffic data to do this trip recalculation manually
There are lacks in roadwork informations - for instance Myślenice, road nr 7 (Lesser Poland), couple of places in Krakow.
  • I can confirm the issues reported for build 3.0.68 regarding the strange and eratic behavious when static.  I can also confirm problems with HD Traffic not updating consistently.  I notice from the release notes on build 3.0.69 that Lubos released, this may be fixed or at least improved.  I also noticed that he is working on a specific problem as you are now on build 3.0.70.  Wonder when we can expect a stable release.

I also noticed a persistant process running after exiting Navigator - MobilityService.  When I stop it via Developer Options, it just restarts.  Please advise what this is and why it continues to run.
  • 'eratic' behaviour is a known issue, we will sort it out
what exactly do you mean by 'not updating consistently'?

  • I mean that HD Traffic will sometimes update and at other times not or either very late, if that makes sense.

Can you also advise on the processes left running after Navigator is closed.

EDIT:  I think I have found it.  The running service relates to crowd sourced parking.  If that is enabled then the MobilityService process remains running even when Navigator exits and cannot be stopped unless you re-run Navigator and de-select the option.  At least that is what I have just done after going through various options to determine this.  I may, of course, be wrong.
  • Another comment I would like to make in the hope that someone can either verify this or not.  I have set Bluetooth to "Use vehicle sound system over bluetooth"  and after a while my iplayer radio app suddenly plays when a notification is given.  The strange thing is that the app is not shown as open when I check later.  I should point out that I was actually using the car radio with no music app on my phone.  My concern in this instance is data usage if this is the case.  I have an HTC Sense M8 running Android 6.0 and wonder if anyone else has used this setting and experienced a similar problem.

I am still waiting for an answer regarding all of the Bluetooth options and what each should actually do.  I can't find this information elsewhere.   I'll try to test a couple tomorrow and see what happens with them.
  • we get HD traffic data from TomTom every 5 minutes
Navigator also checks every 5 minutes
it is therefore possible that other program shows traffic events earlier (or later), as it checks ate different times
  • Tomas, the problem is about getting the data in the first place.  This can be within a minute, 5 minutes or later.

Can you also confirm that the comments I made relating to the MobilityService process is correct and, if so, will it be fixed in a future release.   I would also like a technical response regarding all of the Bluetooth options.
  • Bluetooth options are from my point of view experimental(it does not work 100%):

Default - using stream media, BT works only with *A2DP protocol

Use custom volume - using stream notification, when user is in the Navigator, volume buttons controls stream notification(voice commands), when user is out of Navigator then volume buttons controls stream media(so other apps like music player). Note:this function in 3.0.x works well in map and menu only due to code change by @stepan

Use vehicle sound system over BT - using stream media when BT device is not connected, using *SCO when BT device is connected

Pause device music player on navigation instruction - using stream media, BT works only with *A2DP protocol, Navigator send broadcast to other apps that it should pause/resume music

*A2DP - it does not behave like voicecall and on most of autoradios there is need to enable "media", on devices, when autoradio/handsfree decide to route it into *SCO channel then messages are not complete(cutted begin and end of voice command)

*SCO - simulates voicecall(it mutes radio and let Navigator speak over BT), SCO channel opens in 3-5seconds. Navigator requests opening SCO before message(according to speed and incoming crossroad) - there is the bug with incorrectly opened channel. SCO does not work when on autoradio is set "media" mode.
  • @tomas

    Regarding HD Traffic

For example CoPilot. You can set 3 things.

    1. Distance Ahead to Report Traffic: 15Km / 30Km / 60Km / 100Km
    2. Traffic Update Interval: 5 mins / 10 mins / 20 mins / never
    3. Show Traffic Delay Alert: Delay of 10+ min / ...15+ mins / ...20+ mins
  • The download link http://download.mapfactor.com/mapfactor_navigator.apk is now redirected to version 3.0.73+. The version will be on Google Play beta in few hours.
-HD traffic - red color only for closed roads
-HD traffic - do not load data on insignificant position change
    -HW renderer - autozoom speedup
-HW renderer - incorrect GPS direction on low speed fixed
-HW renderer - problem with road rendering fixed
-SW renderer - crashing on startup fixed
-revert of experiments from version 3.0.69 and 3.0.70
  • Thanks for the explanations regarding Bluetooth, Lubos.  Got to say I can't get any to work as they should (or at least as I would expect).

Default - no commands initiated (received)

Use Custome Volume - as Default

Use Vehicle sound system over BT - If I am listening to the radio then interrupts with voice commands but then after a few commands, it also starts up my iRadio app which plays LOUD whilst also giving navigation instructions (and also uses my data allowance).  If I use it when my vehicle sound system is on media play then it works after a fashion.

Pause device - It is the closest I can get to at least hearing the voice commands.  Unfortunately it also stops my media playing (expected) but then it does not restart.  Intermittent as it could restart at any time but not after each voice command.  Does not work if my radio is playing.

What I would expect is the phone to work similarly as to a voice call inerrupt, regardless of what my car media player is set to.  I should be able to receive commands whilst listening to the radio or if I am using media on my phone then the interrupt should be transparent (ie the media starts playing again consistently).  I should emphasise that I do not have this problem with other navigation apps over BT.

On another matter regarding HD Traffic, I am not confident that traffic is taken into account when routing.  I tested this today and was directed onto a road with stationery traffic (shown on the map).  Fortunately I could avoid it by continuing around a roundabout and taking an alternative route.  No alternative route choice was given.  I must also say that the map does not look very good when travelling along a route with either traffic or roadworks as the lines drawn look crude and clunky whilst the icons are very small (HW render).

  • I run this simulation both ways and had no problem
  • Yes, and you're implying?
  • nothing, just stating fact
  • OK, If @lubos finds it usefull, perhaps you can provide the logs.
    It has worked before with
Hardware (experimental) Map Renderer: Mali-T760 (OpenGL ES 3.1).
  • Navigator 3.0.73
    Android 6.0.1
    LG K10 LTE
HW renderer on stops works now fine but during movement (speed irrelevant) there are some constant rotations (1-2 per second), not more than about 10 deg in both directions (this is just an estimation of course), not connected to curves on the road. I've also noticed with pleasure that HW renderer started to zoom out during navigation.
It would be nice to get road number information in that mode as it is with SW rendering mode.

HD Traffic information now is obtained properly (less than minute) but from yesterday I've tested it only couple of times. But I've also observed one issue, which I think should be addressed rather to TomTom. Average speed showed for queued traffic is sometimes very very strange - I've seen something like over 70 km/h in crowded town (Kraków) which is impossible. This morning, one of the traffic on my way to work was described with avg. speed over 30 km/h and Navigator calculated route through this traffic (does Navigator use this informations in calculations?). The calculated time of the trip was completely unreal. In real it was rather closer to stationery traffic (which was shown on google map).
It. would be nice that one of proposed routes (alternative routes) should be "traffic free" to avoid such situations, or maybe it could be an option for route calculation.
  • Could there be some issue with displaying street names, service areas, after sometime none are displayed with software rendering to?
Using zoom in / out, 2 fingers spreading on display, brings these back? Autozoom?

Howdy, Stranger!
