I have a small question. I'd like to buy this great tool but for the reported 16% coverage for Romania it's a waste of my money since OSM maps have full coverage. I thought that navigator is using TomTom maps. Is this correct?
If yes, then Romania is fully covered in TomTom for quite a while.
My question is...How much is covered for Romania and when is expected to be fully covered?
Navigator also uses OSM maps. Mapfactor navigator is free as is the OSM maps. You can of course donate to help support the great team that is developing navigator.
I'm not talking about OSM. The OSM coverage is more than ok.
I want the commercial map to have the TomTom coverage in order to make sense buying it. And since Navigator is using TomTom maps, i thought that Romania has TT coverage...but no.
In the map download section of setup utility, the comercial map has 11Mb. The OSM has 42Mb ...
I wonder, if the size of the download is of significance for map details. It may be just a matter of map-format. Openandromap of Romania (including moldova) has 211 MB, that is five times that of Navigator. The reason is, that this maps covers hiking trails and topographic information and so forth, which are not useful for car-navigation. Tomtom says in its shop https://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/shop/maps/#deviceSelected=22898&mapSelected=Central and Eastern Europe, that is has "detailed coverage" for Romania, while partial coverage ist up to 90%. So detailed coverage must be somewhere over 90%. And what tomas says before, that's just what you can exspect from Mapfactors tomtom maps.
