Question: "Speed" and "Road Restrictions" settings?

  • Am new to Mapfactor Navigator Free and have found it to be a very reliable map app with many good options such as offline route recalculation and the ability to set multiple way-points between the departure and destination locations. It will definitely be replacing another map app I have been using.

I have read through the PDF User Guide for MapFactor
Navigator 12 and cannot find a clear  explanation
     of the "Settings>Speed" and
"Menu>Route Info>Route Setup>Road Restrictions" options and how they
    are to be used.

As a test I have set the “Speed” option to “0% over speed limit”, and all
of the “Road Restrictions” to “Extraurban speed =20mph, “Urban speed=20mph “
    and “Preference=0%” ,” Use Speed Restrictions=Checked”.

Test drove on a highway at 55mph and received no type of
warnings or notifications either visual or audible that I had exceeded the
    limits.

What is the purpose of the various above options and how are
    they to be used?

  • As I understand it the speed limit warning applies only to speed traffic signs if and when they are available in the maps. IMHO in OSM they are not very complete.

The speeds in road restrictions are used for calculating estimated travel times, because these are the speeds you chose to drive on these roads. That has nothing to do with speed warnings.

If someone knows better, please correct me.

Thanks that seems to make sense for the "Menu>Route Info>Route Setup>Road Restrictions" options,as the speeds set are used in the simulation runs.

Does anyone have an incite as to what the "Settings>Speed-Set speed warning threshold" option does?
I have tried setting to" 0% and 5% over speed limit" and receive no notifications when exceeding the posted speed limit AND the apparent speed limit indicator graphic that appears on some of the maps.
Phone sound setting is set to "sound" to ensure any audio indicators.
    Thanks..
