Any explantion anywhere of how the Route Setup Tab Works

The settings on the route setup tab of the route properties dialog box mystifies me?Is there a written explanation anywhere?Is it primarily for timing estimates?Is there any way to determine the category of a map on the screen?What does the preference percentage mean?Does the initial icon mean use or do not use?

It is partly explained in the manual @chattiewoman linked to in the other topic.
Navigator will use this data for calculating or simulating your route.
We discussed here somewhere wich categories of routes in Navigator belong to wich map data (what may be different for OSM an tomtom-Maps). I don't know the details.
Percentage means the preference Navigator will use for calculation of your route.
Last question answer is yes.
