problem with calculating a route

I have a Google Nexus 7 (2012 v1) and have been impressed with the speed with which it calculates routes. Recently calculation has become so slow as to be almost unusable. I am in the process of running various diagnostics and benchmarks but cannot find an obvious hardware fault.
I am running version Navigator 1.6.20
I recall reading somewhere on this forum that if I delete Navigator and re-install I would not lose my (paid for) maps and all the other POI files that are installed.
Please can you confirm that this is so before I inadvertently delete everything
