Can they please have names in English. Mine are almost entirely in Thai which I cannot read

Even if you set map language in settings? There you have the choice of language of the application, local or English.

Under settings you can set the map language to Englisch.
If you are using OSM maps, note that English names can be displayed only as long as somebody has mapped an English translation for them. Hence there is no guarantee it will be complete. -
