Can Navigator Do?

I'm having trouble with day/night mode on my xperia tablet. Day/night mode is activated but it doesn't switch over to night mode until it is way past being dark. How is dark determined - is it using a sensor or the time?
Also, can you save the current GPS position?

I think Android determines when night starts and finishes. To save current GPS go to My Places/Save current GPS position.
