Question about paid (TOM TOM) and Non paid maps

So lets say I am using the free USA maps.  Then I bought the TOM TOM Canada map.  I read if I want to switch to the paid map I need to turn off APP.  Yet when I do that and relaunch app the choice for Navigator free or Navigator is not there,  It goes directly to the home page.  The only way to get the Nav free page is to restart cell phone.  Annoying to say the least.   Is there anyway to switch between paid and non paid maps easily?

PS  What is the difference between FREE and PAID TOM TOM maps?   Did I read something about lanes?
