No exit number during navigation?

Hi, I got the free android version of navigator, and I noticed that during navigation on freeways, when it shows you where to exit, there's no exit number, only a street number. That's very confusing because a street number does not always correspond to the 'name' of an exit on the freeway.
Also, there's no voice guidance when I'm about to exit ?
The map I'm using is New York, USA.
