Vehicle profile speeds have no effect

I could not figure out the effect of changing the speeds under "Road Restricions" in any vehicle profile. Even moving to extreme values has no impact in routes, speed warnings or simulations. Changing the preference level does affect routing indeed. Am I missing something?
I'm using version 0.13.27 on Android 4.1.1 on a Galaxy S3 with the free OSM maps.
If any developer sees this, I would recommend replacing the sliders with text fields, which are easier to edit.
