Export 'My Places'

How do I do export to GPX?
I can see the favourites.xml, but can't understand the position format, and besides, I'm sure there must be a simpler way!

Luckily for me, I'm a programmer(novice for Android) and can write code to convert placemarkers to the format my other programs use and to convert their placemarker formats to those used in the favourites.xml file.

Thanks, I thought it was something like that
It does annoy me though when apps/programmes don't have an inbuilt export function, it's as if they want to trap you into using their software for ever more!
