All I get is a white screen

I go to "navigate" and set a destination. Then I get this whitish screen with a little hand in the bottom right corner. That's it. I hit the hand and a red thing pops up on the screen. What do I need to do?thanks

Forget it, I had to DL a map. I thought when I started the app it said something about having already DLed the maps.
