Auto-Rotation, possibility to deactivate? http://forum.mapfactor.com/discussion/263/auto-rotation-possibility-to-deactivate Mon, 14 May 2012 13:03:45 -0400 elPresidente 263@/discussions Hey Guys,

I started testing the MapFactor Navigator an my Samsung GS2 a few days ago and i have to say, that until now i like it very much. I have tested several Offline-Navigation-Solutions before, but this is really a nice piece of Software :)

Nevertheless i have a question, and i didn't found an answer:

Is it possible to deactivate the auto-rotation feature of the map?

It would be nice to let the map stay static with north on top of my screen.

Another small wish of me, is the possibility to configure the loudness of the voice of the navigator.

On my SGS2 the sounds overdrive, even when the system loudness is down to 1%. I found some posts which deal already with this topic and i hope it will be on the future feature list :D

i hope i have postet my questions on the right place and that someone can help me :)

with kind regards Jan

1) After detection of the GPS (COM2 9600 baud) and I select this a blank display is shown and the application freezes - reboot is the only solution and the Settings is NOT stored. OK, fixed it by manually editing the settings.xml file on a PC

2) When I tab a position on the map and select save as favorite I get a line to type in the name but the keyboard is not displayed and application freezes - reboot is the only solution.

It looks like problem with writing data to the SD-CARD, but the card is OK when inserted in a PC. What format should the SD-CARD have (FAT32??)

iGo8 works fine in the same machine so the HW is believed to be OK.

street intersections vs street numbers http://forum.mapfactor.com/discussion/84/street-intersections-vs-street-numbers Tue, 12 Jul 2011 15:01:31 -0400 adr1957 84@/discussions  Why has the system in NavFree 11 been set to recognize intersections and not numbers? Is is a matter of maps? Is it that I didn't find the correct settings? Does the commercial version use the canonical system or is it an unavoidable built-in feature of navigator?
Thanks to all explanations

MapFactor Free prefer localisation "ntework" over "gps" http://forum.mapfactor.com/discussion/258/mapfactor-free-prefer-localisation-ntework-over-gps Thu, 03 May 2012 06:51:54 -0400 SunCobalt 258@/discussions
I usually have localisation "Network" and "GPS enabled on my Android phone (Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro). All other applications, usually other navigation apps and logging apps for OSM, take the GPS position. But Mapfactor is using "Network" position. The strange thing is that Mapfactor enables GPS...I can see the satellite data when I switch to the "GPS info" and the GPS symbol indicates a successfull fix but it does not use it, regardless how long I wait Only if I turn of "Network" position in the setting or switch to airplane mode I can use GPS in Mapfactor navigation

International names in non-latin characters http://forum.mapfactor.com/discussion/259/international-names-in-non-latin-characters Fri, 04 May 2012 15:29:42 -0400 SunCobalt 259@/discussions
as requested lets continue this in a new thread. What I mean is that there exist countries which don't use latin script set like China, Russia, Thailand, Serbia...whatever.
Some important places have name:en, name:de and so on....like Moscow
http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/node/1686293227
or Bangkok
http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/node/1628207792
or Belgrade
http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/node/60571493

But many places, especially with lower priorities like villages or street names do not have german or english names but are in letters that look like hieroglyphics for us. Therefore, some special tags exists to show the name in a latin script....not always but every application that uses such tags helps to make it more common
Example name= Велико Средиште (cyrillic) + name:sr-Latn= Veliko Središte (latin)
Often name:en is used to give a name with latin characters (like in Greece)....but in theory this is wrong because it is not an english name but a local name in latin script. So sometimes other tags are used like name:sr-Latn for the example above or name:ja_rm (latin script of Japanese).

What the Navigator currently does is to use name= and name:en..... At least based on my tests. Search for Belgrad (German name) and you will see "Belgrade (Београд)" in the screen....with German phone and Navigator settings. The funny thing is that the Navigator can translate cyrillic to latin. Search for "Kopaonik" in Serbia and you will see only "Копаоник" as search result because there is no name:en. This is correct but since I can not read cyrillic I would blindly press OK without knowing that this is correct. If there is more than one result, I would be lost.

I am not sure what the goal of your company is....i.e. if you are developing a program for western europe only, so this topic would not be on your top list.
But if you you are interested, you should start a discussion with the community. This will not be an easy task because there doesn't exist "one community" but many, with different channels (forum, mailing lists etc).
My first idea would be to take name:xx=[phone setting] (primary) OR name:en OR latin name according to a country specific table OR name=. But I am not a IT developer, only an international OSM mapper.

Kind regards

Importing GPS Tracks http://forum.mapfactor.com/discussion/202/importing-gps-tracks Wed, 01 Feb 2012 15:28:45 -0500 stlab 202@/discussions Android http://forum.mapfactor.com/discussion/184/android Sat, 24 Dec 2011 05:26:14 -0500 grumpygrandad 184@/discussions Bugreport for Mapfactor Navigator Beta on Android http://forum.mapfactor.com/discussion/213/bugreport-for-mapfactor-navigator-beta-on-android Thu, 23 Feb 2012 02:13:39 -0500 efred 213@/discussions 1. Map Downloader don't work (there are no maps for selection in the window). The download of maps just works with the Navigator 11 Setup Utility in Windows on the PC (this will be a problem for Users with Linux)

2. The Program crash's a lot. Often it will be, when I will change from Portrait to Landscape.

3. View in Landscape: You can't see enough. The map-Window is too small and the infos at the bottom are to big/high.

4. View Portrait: here also: the infos at the bottom should be further below.

5. Just in Landscape View: the Menubar at the Top (the bar with the Zoom-Icon, Destination-Icon, etc...) is often not correctly visible (sometimes its o.k., sometimes its like this picture)

Navigator free crashes with my POI file http://forum.mapfactor.com/discussion/253/navigator-free-crashes-with-my-poi-file Mon, 30 Apr 2012 06:18:45 -0400 paul9531031 253@/discussions I am quite new at this: After reading a lot online I passed a POI file through DiggerQt and lo, out came a .mca file! I was feeling very pleased with myself until, when I go to Navigator's Import function and click on the new file, Navigator stops.

The version is digger_11_0_47, downloaded 2 days ago, and because it was happy with my input file I assume that it was in UTF-8 encoding. I have the file in lots of formats, but not XLS. Also, to make the file small and fit the maps I have, I ran it through a basic routine to strip out all the sites outside Spain or Portugal, which I can only do to a text file.

Can anyone suggest what might be wrong with my new file? It started as a .csv, (free from Archiescampings.eu) a typical line looks like this:

-5.33480, 36.19174, "SurEuropa 3a - La Linea (08/01-21/12) >+34956643587"

Could it be that I got the Latitude and Longitude in the wrong order, so that none of the points is on a map that Navigator knows about?

Has anyone gone through this loop already? Or got a csv file they know works after conversion with Digger, which I could have for comparison?

Any help gratefully received.
Thanks, Paul]]>
