POI icon format

Hello,
I am a new user on Windows 7. I want to load my own custom POIs in New Zealand. I would like to bring the icons for some categories across from our Motor Caravan Association web site if possible.
What format are the icon files? What other requirements are there, such as number of pixels or resolution?
